Functions of the dermal-epidermal junction include: layer-to-layer adherence, epidermal mechanical support, and cellular exchange across the junction. The epidermal-dermal junction is made up of four layers: the basal cell plasma membrane, the lamina lucida, the basal lamina, and the sub-basal lamina.
The dermal-epidermal junction (Dermoepidermal junction/basement membrane) is two-layered. At this junction, the epidermis (top layer of skin) gathers nutrients and expels waste.
